The Against the Wind Festival is a week of events at the Arcata Playhouse and was first created to draw attention to the nuclear threat to life on earth and to fuel a new voyage of the first nuclear protest vessel, the Golden Rule. Today the nexus between global warming, environmental degradation, defense spending and nuclear power has led to addressing broader issues threatening our world.

Monday, Nov. 11: Honoring Veterans: Their Sacrifice & the Human Cost of War
Presenters: Robert Gould, MD President, SF-Bay Area Chapter – Physicians for Social Responsibility; Paul Chappell West Point grad, Iraq War vet, Peace Literacy Advocat

Tuesday, Nov. 12: Voices for a New Future: Students, and Young Adults Speak Out
Featuring Eureka Poet Laureate David Holper and Words That Matter

Wednesday, Nov. 13: Climate Disruption/Global Warming: The Science and the Solution.
Moderator Peter Alstone, Schatz Energy Center, HSU, plus current scientific views.
General admission $15; Students, $8

Thursday, Nov. 14: “Nuclear Jeopardy”: The Game of Your Life.
A Live Game Show Tests the Wits of Competing Teams, While Sharing Critical Facts. Host: Bob Wells, Hostess: Lynnie Horrigan Teams from Eureka, Arcata , the Art World and the Film World, plus a special appearance by Mother Earth.
General admission $15; Students, $8

Friday, Nov.15: “Songs of Freedom I”
The Great March Great gospel, folk revival and civil rights music inspired by The 1963 Great March on Washington.
Concert Tickets: $15 per night or $25 for both; Students $8 per night or $12 for both

Saturday, Nov. 16: “Songs of Freedom II”
Anthems from the 60’s & Beyond. Music that expresses our current need for courage and unity.

Sunday, Nov. 17: A Celebration of Peace, honoring Edie and Bryan Jessup
