Great Backyard Bird Count at Ma-le’l Dunes Unit (South)

In celebration of the Annual Great Backyard Bird Count, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) invites you to explore the beauty of nature at the Ma-le’l Dunes Unit (South) from February 14–17. Guided Bird Walks at both 10:00 AM & 3:30 PM each day.

All 3:30 PM walks will feature a Spanish translator, making this event accessible for our Spanish-speaking community.

Get hands-on with the latest birding apps like Merlin and eBird! BLM staff and volunteers will be on-site to introduce you to the world of birding using these innovative tools. Come be part of a global research effort, helping us understand how our feathered friends use different habitats around the world! Let's make a difference, one bird at a time!

It’s a great opportunity to connect with nature, observe amazing birds, and join in on citizen science efforts! This series of events was made possible through the collaborative efforts and partnerships from: The Bureau of Land Management, Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge, and Friends of the Dunes.

Directions:
Take Highway 255 toward Manila and turn onto Young Lane. To the left is the Ma-le’l Dunes Unit (South) parking lot (with access to Manila Beach).
