Mad River Steelhead Derby

Please join your fellow Northern Californian anglers and sportsmen for this inaugural hatchery steelhead fishing derby put on by the Nor-Cal Guides and Sportsmen’s Association (NCGASA). This Mad River steelhead derby (hatchery fish only) is for all you fishermen and women who love to to fish in the Redwoods!

The Nor-Cal Guides and Sportsmen’s Association is an non-profit organization that represents the “Sportsmen's Voice” of Northern California which is comprised of nine elected volunteer board members. Most of the volunteer members are either sportsmen or professional fishing guides.

In order to participate in this Mad River steelhead derby, you must be a member of NCGASA. There is a $20.00 due/donation to join. As a NCGASA member you will receive a free derby prize raffle ticket, fishing updates, newsletters, a decal and much, much more! This fishing derby will cost an additional $10.00 to be eligible to win cash prizes, tackle and gear donated by our sponsors.

The Mad River Steelhead Derby will run from Jan. 1 to Feb. 29 with an awards party event date to be determined later. $500 for first place; $300 for second place; $150 for third place and the youth division will win a $150 gift certificate to a local tackle store.

Catch a hatchery steelhead on the Mad River during the event dates, measure it from nose to the fork of the tail, take a photo of the entire measurement with the ruler or tape on top of the fish and then also take a photo of you and your hatchery fish to enter. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Mad River Stewards volunteer angler broodstock collection program in partnership with the Department of Fish & Wildlife.
