The Avenue of the Giants Marathon Course is one of the most scenic in the United States

Nestled among the Giant Redwoods in Humboldt Redwoods State Park and bordering the Eel River and Bull Creek, the course offers runners both a challenge and a feast for the eyes.

The Avenue of the Giants is one of the most beautiful races in the world!  It runs through old growth redwoods and follows a natural creek in the middle of a state park.  Staged on "The Avenue of the Giants" in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, located in rural Northern California. Course is on a paved road the winds gently up hill but is mostly a flat, fast destination race.  With little to distract you, the tall trees inspire the athlete in each of us to be strong.  The course is certified and the marathon is a Boston Qualifying event. Half marathon and 10K races are also available.  Please see "Visit Website" link above for more info and to register.

Created by the Six Rivers Running Club, the first marathon was run in May of 1972.  The Avenue of the Giants was the chosen site because it is relatively flat, with a few interesting hills and the unsurpassed beauty of the redwood forest.

In 1977, over 900 runners participated in the marathon, making it one of the largest marathons on the west coast.
