Eureka Chinatown Project Celebrates Chinese Lunar New Year

A celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Dragon, in front of the Clarke Historical Museum during the Arts Alive artwalk, Saturday. The street festival will feature performances by traditional Lion Dancers, Humboldt Taiko, Humboldt County Lao Dancers, and the K-Pop Dance Team from Eureka High School. Enjoy food and artisan vendors!

While the Lunar New Year occurred in January, ECP began celebrating it during the May Arts Alive, when the weather is warmer. The Eureka Chinatown Project is an initiative of the Humboldt Asians and Pacific Islanders in Solidarity (HAPI) and community members to honor the history and culture of the first Chinese people in Humboldt County, California. ECP lifts up the history and culture of the historic Chinese community in Humboldt while raising awareness of the local Chinese expulsion events and the federal and state exclusionary acts that shaped our society today.
