The Obon Festival is a Buddhist ceremony originating in Japan meant to honor ancestral spirits and remember the departed.
Experience the honoring of ancestors and savor traditional foods, culture and fun of Humboldt’s Second Annual Obon Festival. Obon is a traditional Japanese Festival to honor those who came before. Asian and Pacific Island food vendors! Adults and children of all ages are invited to participate in traditional bon street dancing. Fun activities for children, performances by Humboldt Taiko, and shakuhachi flautist, event blessing by a Buddhist priest, and all are welcome to leave tanzashi (notes of remembrances) at the symbolic ancestors’ tree next to an altar.
