Historical Sites Society of Arcata

The Historical Sites Society of Arcata was established in 1972 to promote recognition of the cultural heritage of Arcata, California and its environs, identifying historically and architecturally significant structures and sites within Arcata and encourages their preservation.

Of particular interest on this site are downloadable maps for self-guided house tours, here.
Susie Van Kirk, well-known Arcata historian, has searched deeds, old newspapers, and local histories to bring together this information about Arcata's historical sites.

The Phillips House Museum on 7th & Union, was built in the gothic revival style and is considered the earliest house in Arcata. This active living museum is open on Sunday from 2-4 and tours may be arranged by appointment.

Whether you are a visitor, a newcomer or a long-time resident, we hope you will enjoy learning more about Arcata's architecture.
