Mckinleyville

Many outdoor adventures are just minutes away; bird watching, hiking and camping in State Parks and forests, some of the best river fishing in the world, whitewater rafting trips, horseback riding or taking photos of Roosevelt elk in their natural habitat. Take a walk or ride your bike on the scenic Hammond Trail, a paved trail that runs parallel to the coast from one end of McKinleyville to the other.  Visit local beaches to spend the day kayaking, surfing, fishing or taking a leisurely stroll looking for treasures.   Attend a variety of festivals all over Humboldt, including our very own Pony Express Days.

Pony Express Days is a town celebration that was established in 1968 and is held the first weekend in June.  It is a four day community event where you can enjoy a chili cook-off, barn dance, gymkhana, a parade down Central Avenue and our big Pony Express Family Fun Festival in Pierson Park.  There is something for all ages. This year will offer additional festivities celebrating the 50th Anniversary!

McKinleyville has now become the fastest growing community on the North Coast.  We are the commercial air gateway to Humboldt County with the Arcata-Eureka Airport on the north end of town. Next to the airport is the Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt Bay headquarters.

The community offers plenty of family activities, parks, a thriving business community offering everything one needs right in town, an active senior center and established school systems, with Cal Poly Humboldt only five minutes away.

Humboldt is famous for its pristine coastline, ancient redwood forests, fresh seafood, unique handcrafted products and friendly people. Enjoy McKinleyville and its small town charm with big city services.
